Bahia Tortuga !

We had an awesome 3 day sail from San Diego to Bahia Tortuga… Turtle Bay. 371 total miles in 56 hours.

Light winds mostly, but we did manage to sail for 16 hours… and arrived in Bahia Tortuga at 1730 on Nov 1st.

Overnight passages worked well with our modified Swedish watch schedule. We’re also fortunate that our passage all the way to Cabo will be under nearly full moon.

Our newest sail, which we’ve named Monster Blue worked very well in winds over 11kts. We managed a boat speed between 7-8 kts when the wind reached 12kts. So we’re hoping the next leg to Bahia Santa Maria will let us fly Monster Blue (a Parasailor 156sq meter sail) in the speed range to really log some miles.

No real boat issues to report. All systems working well. Our crew mates Chris and Michelle have been awesome. It’ll be sad to see them go when we reach San Jose del Cabo on November the 10th.

We leave for Bahia Santa Maria, 240 miles away on Saturday Nov 4th at 0700.

I’m attempting to post this using our Iridium GO! And Opera Mini… we’ll see.

  1. So cool! Glad you’ll have good light for sailing to Cabo! This post seemed to come through well on my end. Hope it went through somewhat easily on yours. Big love to you!!

  2. So glad to hear that you guys are enjoying your trip.
My favorite times at sea were the watches in the middle of the night, Especially with a full moon, one senses a connection with ancient peoples way back to the dawn of man who have looked at those same stars with the same wonder and awe that we do now. Also all those ancient mariners down through the aeons who have travelled by these same stars and braved these same winds and waves as you have to reach far flung destinations that will bring some new adventure or a brighter future.

      Thanks Paul!
Last night was epic. Under full moon with 18kts from behind.. We flew the Parasailor spinnaker half the day and all night into Bahia Santa Maria.

We’re now anchored with the other Ha Ha boats and just recovering from days at sea (translating to.. having a drink)!

It’s 85° and sunny here! Gotta love the lower latitudes.

      Thanks for following!
