Magic blog postings

Finally! A way to update our blog including a picture, while at sea and all without internet!

All it takes is knowledge, and some Benjamins. Well, quite a few Benjamins really.

In the back of my mind Ive known that its possible to update our blog via email but it took a bit of work to figure it out. Hence, the reason my last blog post initially posted 6 times. I had a setting wrong. Im using the Postie Plugin for WordPress.

This is basically how it works. We type up a post. Attach a picture. Email it using our OneMail app to a special address that our website checks every 30 minutes. The picture is compressed to a smaller size so it can be sent. This email goes from my iPad through the IridiumGo, bounces off a satellite and hits the internet, someplace.
This is the only way I know of to update a website with text and a picture while at sea. All by using a satellite based internet provider.

As for Benjamins… its about $125 per month for the service. We use OCENS ( www.ocens.com/ ) and theyve been great. Especially when you have to call or email them by satellite phone.

This picture is taken at Bonanza anchorage on the east side of Espiritu Santo.
When this posts to our blog… it will be the first real post while offshore!

Thanks for reading! Make sure to check out the rest of our website and follow along with our travels at CruisingVolare.
