Calm Los Gatos anchorage

The good and the bad

What we’re learning and striving for, is the correct ratio of good to bad. Meaning.. how many great days on the water do we have compared to how many days just plain suck?

Luckily our fun/suck ratio is greatly tilted towards the fun side. Yes, we get a sail here and there that tests our patience but you really need those days, to know that they exist. Likewise, super awesome days on the boat remind you how great it is to be able to do what were doing.

We departed Isla San Francisco and motorsailed to Los Gatos. A picture perfect anchorage with red sandstone rock formations.

The next day, we motorsailed north to Agua Verde. Although we were here in December, its beauty really showed through with calm, glassy waters in the bay. We also took advantage of the amazing fish tacos served on the beach.

We’re currently on a 2 day mooring in Puerto Escondido. It’s a comfortable 87° outside with a light 6kt breeze. The water temp is 78°. On this fun/suck scale..  this doesnt suck. Its pretty awesome.

Today we dingy’d to the dingy dock just after 8am. Hiked to Steinbeck canyon on a 3 hour roundtrip. Stopped at the Tripui restaurant for a beer on the way back and now Jess is ashore taking advantage of the shower and laundry facilities. She zoomed up there in our 10’ RIB (Rigid inflatable boat). It’s our car, if you will.

We’re continuing our sail north in the Sea of Cortez. Tomorrow we’ll depart for Isla Carmen, specifically the cove of Puerto Ballandra.

Our plan is to continue north as far as possible, hopefully as far as Bahia de Los Angeles, some 235 miles north.

We’re only going to turn around when we have to, in order to meet our good friends in Puerto Vallarta, in June.

  1. Adam & Jess, thank you for the progress reports and great pictures! Miss seeing you at Catalina & Glorietta Bay, but where you are is the Best!

  2. Love getting your updates The pictures are beautiful Keep having the fun days
    Be safe

  3. Gorgeous photos. I thought our cruising days were done, but I can honestly say that your blogs have inspired Monta and I to institute a 5 year plan to leave this empty nest without the parents in it and come down there to experience one part of the world that we missed. It certainly looks like like it may be the best part of the world. Anything after this is probably going to be higher on the suck scale.

  4. You know Link & Deborah from the SDCat Association. We’ve dined on VOLARE during a raftup and saw you last year @ Rendezvous in Catalina.

We are so excited for you and for your adventures…. well planned…. well deserved.

Count us as “followers” as we live vicariously thru you…. The lives of world-wide Sailors!!!

    1. Welcome aboard! We’ll sadly miss the rendezvous this year and I guess, all the rest of them.

      We’ll miss you all.
